1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. We also use similar technologies such as local storage, session storage and pixel tags. In this policy, the word "cookies" refers to all of these unless we say otherwise.
2. How we categorise cookies
We group cookies into four categories. Only strictly necessary cookies are set by default; preferences, analytics and marketing cookies are only used after you give consent via our cookie banner.
| Category | Purpose | Lawful basis | Examples | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Required for the Site to function — routing, security, session, load balancing, cookie-consent state. | Legitimate interest (cannot be disabled). | cyn_cookie_consent, session cookies, CSRF tokens | Session or up to 12 months |
| Preferences | Remember your choices — language, region, viewport preferences and last-viewed pages. | Consent | ui_theme, locale | Up to 12 months |
| Analytics | Help us understand how the Site is used so we can improve content and performance. Aggregated and pseudonymised. | Consent | _ga, _ga_*, plausible-style first-party analytics | Up to 24 months |
| Marketing | Measure campaign performance and, where relevant, deliver tailored messages on third-party platforms. | Consent | LinkedIn Insight Tag, Google Ads conversion | Up to 13 months |
3. Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by trusted third parties that provide functionality on our behalf — for example Google for analytics, LinkedIn for campaign measurement, and our hosting provider for security. These providers may process limited technical data outside South Africa under safeguards described in our Privacy Policy.
4. Managing your choices
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time:
- Click the button below to reopen the cookie preferences banner.
- Adjust your browser settings to block or delete cookies (this may affect functionality).
- Opt out of Google Analytics using the Google Analytics Opt-out add-on.
5. Do Not Track
Our Site honours the "Global Privacy Control" signal where supported by your browser. We do not currently respond to legacy "Do Not Track" headers because there is no industry consensus on their meaning.
6. Changes
We may update this policy as our use of cookies evolves. The "Effective" date above shows the latest revision.
